No these are employees of the Mall. They look the part: uniform with patches, a vest, baseball cap, utility belt with pepper spray, a night stick, a shoulder mike radio, aviator sun glasses and jump boots all in paramilitary black. Except the vest isn’t bullet resistant, the pepper spray just irritates people, the radio only calls their own back office not the police frequencies, doubtful that they have been trained in the effective use of a PR-24 Police Baton, well for that matter not that they can make an arrest or hold a subject for the real police to take into custody.

The junior and senior high school students taunt and harass them and adults pay them no mind. 

In my area, they “patrol” the parking lot with their pretty green bar lights on their sub-compact car. 

All of the trappings of “wanna-be-cop” but even the casual observer can see the difference between this and genuine article.

Why?

Because they lack the one thing that is an actual deterrent to crime: A Gun.
